Our Journey Towards Sustainability And Climate-Positive Packaging
As a group of companies, Takeaway Packaging and Packaging Supplies Ltd have been carbon neutral since 2020. We achieved this with the assistance of a third party assessor, Carbon Jacked, who helped us measure our carbon footprint, off-set any unavoidable emissions through climate projects and take steps to reduce our overall carbon footprint.
Following our first Carbon Neutral assessment, we were able to reduce emissions directly under our control (scope 1 and 2) by implementing the following recommendations:
- Switching to a renewable energy tariff
- Replacing company vehicles with electric, which are charged on site
- Reduced employee commuting emissions
- Decreased the use of diesel-fueled delivery vehicles
- Sourced more products with higher recycled content
- Sourced more products made from renewable materials (like 100% recycled cardboard, sugarcane bagasse, bamboo and even avocado seed)
- Ensured 100% of our products are recyclable or compostable after use
We’ve been purchasing carbon credits to offset our emissions which have gone towards supporting the Musi River Hydro Project in Indonesia. The project not only combats climate change but also contributes to multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals, creating jobs and building infrastructure for local communities, specifically SDGs 7, 8, 9, 12, 13 and 15.
Changes for 2024
We will continue our existing green practices and reduce our carbon footprint further where we can, however this year, instead of renewing our official Carbon Neutral status, we are looking into different ways in which we can support positive climate initiatives.
We’ll update this space soon with more information on what we have planned.
