There is nothing better than a nice warm drink to keep you warm in winter. Whether you are curled up by the fire, walking down the street in the cold or sat in the office trying to warm up, a nice hot drink will always make you feel better. Gingerbread Latte:
With a ginger and vanilla hint this latte has a Christmas feel that will warm you up inside. There is no need to go out and buy expensive flavourings as you most probably have them laying around in your cupboard already. There is no need for an espresso machine all you need is an extra-strong coffee or k-cups as a substitute. Find the ingredients and recipe for this ginger drink below:
Ingredients:
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup sugar
A 2-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup hot espresso
1 cup hot milk or soy milk
Whipped cream (optional)
Recipe:
In a small saucepan, combine the water, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and vanilla. Bring to a boil, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer slowly for 15 to 20 minutes.
Combine the espresso in a mug and add 1/4 cup of the gingerbread syrup. Top off with the heated milk. If you desire, garnish with whipped cream and a sprinkle of grated nutmeg. Enjoy!
Peppermint Mocha:
This is a simple drink with only four ingredients, it will make waking up on a cold morning a lot more enjoyable. Just add a couple drops of peppermint extract and a couple tablespoons of chocolate syrup and then add milk if you like.
Ingredients:
1/2 c. coffee
2 drops peppermint extract
1/3 c. nonfat milk
2 tbsp. dark chocolate syrup
Recipe:
Brew coffee of your choice (or use one package of instant coffee) and pour into a mug. Stir peppermint extract and chocolate syrup into the coffee. Taste and adjust to your liking. Stir in nonfat milk.
Vanilla Café au Lait:
If you are a fan of creamy coffee, then this one’s for you. With half and half, milk and vanilla bean the Vanilla Café au Lait is a smooth and frothy brew that will leave you warm inside and asking for more.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 c. half-and-half
1 1/2 c. whole milk
2 tbsp. sugar
1 vanilla bean
3c. hot, strong brewed coffee
Recipe:
Make the café au lait: Combine the half-and-half, milk, and sugar in a small saucepan. Scrape the seeds from the vanilla bean into the milk mixture and add the bean to the saucepan. Simmer over low heat for 20 minutes.
Remove the vanilla bean from the milk mixture and whisk for 1 minute. Fill each mug with 1/2 cup of hot coffee and 1/2 cup milk mixture. Serve immediately.
Caramel Macchiato:
This sweet caramel drink will take a little longer to create but it is worth every second. It is a drink that has it all, the creaminess of vanilla and milk, the sweetness of caramel and just enough coffee to make it the perfect winter fix.
Ingredients:
Caramel sauce:
2 tablespoons (1oz) unsalted butter
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup (50g) packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Coffee:
1 cup of your favorite strong black coffee very hot
1-3 teaspoons sugar*
1 tablespoon heavy cream
Recipe:
Caramel Sauce- 4 servings
Melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add heavy cream, brown sugar, and salt. Stir well. Bring to a gentle simmer and allow to cook for 4 minutes, until thickened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and mix in vanilla. Transfer to a mason jar with a lid for storage.
Mix
Stir coffee, 1 tablespoon of the caramel, sugar, and cream together. Taste and add more sugar if needed. Top with whipped cream and another drizzle of caramel if desired.
