We all walk around and act like it isn’t something we have to worry about, but it is. We all make a difference to this earth and affect it in one way or another. Therefore, we all need to work together to keep it clean and healthy – that includes the oceans!
Why is plastic bad for the ocean?
What most people don’t know or don’t care to think about is the fact that plastic cannot be absorbed back into the earth. Due to this it ends up in the oceans, killing our wildlife. It takes more than 400 years to degrade so it is no shock that turtles getting their heads caught in the plastic that keeps our cans together, fish swimming and getting stuck in cans and even seals dying as they have got a plastic bag stuck round their neck. It needs to stop!
How much plastic is in the ocean?
Scientists estimate that eight million metric tons of plastic ends up in our oceans each year. That is ridiculous. Just to put it into perspective there is a Garbage truck full of plastic being dumped into the ocean every minute. If that doesn’t shock you then nothing will.
What can we use instead of plastic?
The harmful plastic that is being dumped into our ocean is called polyethylene (PE), but there are now Polylactic acid (PLA) products that is being used as a plastic replacement. It can be recycled and breaks down preventing harm to our ocean or sea life.
At Takeaway Packaging we offer a wide range of Eco-friendly products that won’t harm anyone, sea life or humans and after reading all of this do you not want to help make a difference? You can’t ignore this forever. So why not take a look at our website and see how something so simple as checking that you use PLA not PE will help prevent all of this mess in the ocean.
